Film als subversive Kunst {Amos Vogel}

Als ich, filmisch noch unerfahren, aber schon sehr neugierig, Amos Vogels Film als subversive Kunst vor vielen Jahren für ’nen Fünfer bei Zweitausendeins erstand, war es, als entdeckte ich ein geheimes Land; wie Bildbände exotischer Länder in Menschen Fernweh auslösen, ließ mich dieser Blick ins (Un)Bewußtsein der Filmgeschichte träumen und weckte eine ungemeine Sehnsucht nach all den darin verborgenen Bildern und Geschichten. Mit dem Verzeichnis des Buches bewaffnet machte ich mich mit den mir damals zur Verfügung stehenden Mitteln auf die Suche nach den Filmen, gab aber schon irgendwann bei B frustriert auf; das Buch las ich trotzdem – aber wie erfüllend kann das schon sein, wenn man selten mal einen der Filme zu sehen bekommt. Inzwischen gibt es Mittel und Wege, auch einige der obskureren Filme aufzutreiben und so wollen wir uns in den nächsten Monaten, Jahren, ein wenig von Amos Vogel durch die Filmgeschichte leiten lassen.

Dieses Buch versteht sich selbstverständlich nicht als ein ultimatives Werk. Es reicht dem Interessierten, aber etwas Orientierungslosen, die Hand, eine Karte und einen Kompass, um sich im Labyrinthischen des Filmhirns zu orientieren. Dabei gewährt es einen Blick durch den Türspalt zum Experimentellen und Künstlerischen, vergisst dabei aber nicht zu erwähnen, dass auch ein eher konventionell gemachter Film subversives Potential in sich tragen kann – es leitet den Gewillten an, seinen Gefühlen und Bedürfnissen, seinen Sehnsüchten und seiner Neugier zu folgen und sich nicht allzu sehr von Genres und Kategorien bedrohen zu lassen.

Und nicht zuletzt ist es ein Appell an den Menschen, sein Hirn nicht verrotten zu lassen, sondern stets bereit zu sein, sich selbst und seine Position zu hinterfragen, denn: „Die Geschichte lehrt uns, dass diese Versuche, uns in Menschen zu verwandeln, zwangsläufig weitergehen werden.“ (Vorwort zur Neuauflage; Amos Vogel, New York, 1997) Und die Geschichte und der Mensch konzentrieren sich in keinem anderen Medium so sehr wie im Film. Zu schade ist es, dass solche Appelle eigentlich nur Jene erreichen, die schon offen dafür sind. Aber für diese Menschen ist dieses kluge und kurzweilige Buch ein unglaublicher Glücksfall. (Malina; Oct’13)
